Death of HD-DVD

With the apparent death of HD-DVD in the High Definition format war being announced earlier this week a slue of articles have reached the web with suggestions on what to do with that now “dead” player in your living room.

My opinion. Just because HD-DVD didn’t win the war doesn’t mean it’s a bad product, or a useless piece of junk. I know there are plenty of people out there that own HD-DVD players and HD-DVDRom drives and what not (see…Engadget) ready to cry and moan over their early investment and subsequent “loss” of money. Seriously though, Toshiba put out some very nice players when they had a run at it. We all own DVDs, and we bought HD-DVDs, we have the players that rock at playing both. Should we just throw our hands up in despair, try to ditch our players and HD-DVDs on Ebay? (there’s a lot of people doing it) I really don’t think so. Blu-ray players are probably about a year away from reaching HD-DVD prices (before the death), and the format won’t be fully mature until who knows when. Now isn’t the time to go out and buy a Blu-ray player, probably not until the next profile version comes out, Fall 2008. It’s time to go out and buy HD-DVD players and HD-DVD Movies. Prices are gonna drop dramatically, and the deals will continue to roll in. I’ll say it again, Toshiba put out some very nice players. So go out and replace that old DVD player with no up-conversion and pick up Planet Earth on HD-DVD (it’s sure to be on sale some where for cheap), and enjoy! *you might want to get an HDTV too

So Lan, If you know of or hear about any sales on HD-DVDs let me know. I plan on buying up as many as I can. At least buying up the ones I have always kinda wanted but was unwilling to pay $25 to $30 for them.
